I use really good expensive leather, unless I want to make a mask that looks battle scarred, in which case I'll head for the lower grade stuff that can have alot of character. I have a few different sources that I use since leather from different sources tends to have different molding characteristics...as you probably know, it can be a challenge! The sheen is from acrylic sealer, not sure which one I used for this mask I have a few that I use.
Anywhere between 3 and 6 ounce, it varies since hides vary so much. Sometimes I'll get a hide and know that it won't work for a certain style of mask, but will for others, depending on how it molds.
